Loss changes us. Whether it’s the loss of a child, a partner, a marriage, our health, or another life-altering moment, there often comes a point where we realize we are not the same person we were before.

In this episode, Shauna shares deeply personal insights about grief, healing, and the quiet decisions we sometimes make in the aftermath of loss that can keep us anchored in pain for years.

Drawing from her own experience after losing her son Jack, as well as stories from clients she has worked with, Shauna explores how guilt, unresolved moments, and the belief that life is “over” after loss can quietly shape the path forward.

Three Hearts of Grief: How Mothers Move Through Loss

When a mother loses a child, people often talk about the “stages of grief.”

But after years of working with mothers who have experienced child loss, I’ve noticed something different. Our hearts move through something deeper.

In this episode, I share what I call The Three Hearts of Grief:

The Wounded Heart – the stage where the loss feels impossible to carry and everything in life feels changed.

The Curious Heart – the moment when something begins to shift and we start wondering if our child is still with us in some way.

The Understanding Heart – when grief is still present, but the relationship with our child begins to feel steadier, deeper, and more meaningful.

As you listen, you may recognize your own heart in one of these stages.

And wherever your heart is right now, please know this:

You are not doing grief wrong.
Love did not end.
Your heart is simply learning a new way to carry it.
